Kim Creates a Comfortable & Warm Environment
Tucked away in a waterfront neighborhood in North Mt. Pleasant sits a beautiful single family home with lots of indoor and outdoor space for living and entertaining. Interior Designer Kim recently revealed their backyard update with poolside decor and comfortable quarters for Lowcountry relaxation at its finest.
Now, it’s the interior’s turn. Kim approached their living and dining areas with the goal of creating durable spaces with Coastal Chic design, warm aesthetics and a touch of Bohemian and Rustic flair. The end result is a comfortable and refined setting that all feel proud to call home.
Hear from our in-house Interior Designer, Kimberly Tall, regarding her decor and design selections for this Mount Pleasant home.
For the kitchen, I chose airy and coastal lighting pendants by Currey & Company that offer a substantial aesthetic. The rustic rope detail provides texture and parallels the coastal chic vibe in the design concept.
The open area dining room highlights a Dovetail kitchen table and chairs with reclaimed wood, which offers casual warmth and clean lines. The burnished metal of the Quatrefoil chandelier above ties all of the metals together and provides the large scale needed for the space, but still remains a whisper above the table.
The Dovetail barstools with hammered metal coordinates with the pendant lighting. The reclaimed wood offers warmth and depth next to the white cabinets and coordinates with the dining area. I was very pleased with all this area flowed seamlessly from one space to the next even in an open floor plan concept.
Living Room Design
My favorite element of the living room is the Robin Bruce leather swivel chairs – the most comfy chairs ever! The swivel allows people to chat with those at the bar, watch TV or converse from across the room. The size is perfect… great for somebody tall and the perfect hug for somebody small. The distressed leather reminds me of my Dad‘s bomber jacket when I was a kid, and the smell reminds me of a crisp fall day. The aesthetic alone draws you to the touch as if it’s your old baseball mitt that you finally wore in after years. And, the color reminds me of the taste of chocolate… Jus’ sayin’ 😉
Most of the seating in this space is provided by two Rowe Furniture sofas with casual and coastal slip covers – perfect for the Lowcountry with down-wrapped cushions for additional comfort and luxurious feel. The slip covers also “washables”; specifically made for parents, pet owners and real people. 😉
When I get the opportunity, I love to add in home accents by Jaipur Living. These pillows and area rug have an organic, chic, refined bohemian feel. Their texture, geometric design and contrast provide depth and dimension to the sapce. In fact, the rug is a quiet art piece itself to compliment the design. It is 100% wool, which is considered the “miracle fiber” – water repellent, stain resistant, fireproof and lifelong. The pile is plush, soft, yet extremely durable.
The coffee table is an incredible one of a kind piece of work. It brings an organic element to the center of the room to balance the aesthetic. Finally, I tossed a Surya throw over the sofa’s shoulder in a neutral oatmeal for fun and function. You can never go wrong with Surya accessories.
Speaking of which, these Surya lamps are soft-spoken but dramatic. The glass and metal marry as a perfect art piece on the reclaimed wood tables by Uttermost. I love the spindle leg on the table that grounds the space with tradition. The white garden stools are also by Surya and complement any space and are functional for seating or for holding a plant or beverage. They are for indoor and outdoor usage.
The accessories and personal elements offer personality and memories as a beautiful collection of the families life, accomplishments and travels. Every home should be sprinkled with artifacts of personal experience to make the house come alive with individual personality.
Dining Room Update
Finally, I chose a Dovetail table and chairs for their formal dining room. The walnut table offers an anchor for the space and the unique barrel-back slipcover chairs provide a distinct and intentional contrast to the wood. The slipcover is classic canvas in bleached white and is one of our “go to’s” for casual eyes and soften a more formal space. They are very functional, washable and extremely comfortable to relax with friends and family over dinner conversation.
The side table is by Dovetail also – perfect for storing China, candles and linens. The mirror reflects light and authors dimension with a geometric design. The warm wood tone is welcoming, beachy and coordinates beautifully with the heart of pine wood floors. Utilizing different tone woods offers depth in any space. If you use one single wood tone, your design may look flat and lifeless. Finally, the oil rubbed bronze chandelier by Currey & Company provides us with the metal component. I love the handsome tradition it expels.
