Ready to make a statement on your walls? We’ve seen wall covering trends change over time, but one this is certain… wallpaper is very popular and hot with trend-setting designers and homeowners. As always, there are so many different patterns and colors ranging from bold and bright to subtle and neutral. Depending on the space and how unique the homeowner wants his/her space to be, there are options from top brands to reflect the desired aesthetic.
In-house Interior Designers Kim & Sarah both recently finished room makeovers. Take a look at the wall coverings they chose for their spaces.
Isle of Palms Dining Room
Starting with a blank canvas, Kim approached this dining room with the goal of adding character and a unique accent to the space. The initial room was very sand neutral, and the walls and floors blended together with similar tones.
She selected Thibaut wallpaper – Pattern ZAGORA, color blue – because it is a grass cloth offering natural textures, depth and dimension to the space.
With windows allowing a lot of natural light in, she chose to incorporate blue as an extension of the outdoor coastal environment.
Kim also liked the large repeat of medallions in this wallpaper’s design, which offers visual interest, weight and personality to the room. It ultimately appears as art on the walls, anchoring and grounding the space.
As a bold and brave statement, you have to be adventurous to pull this design approach off. Kim absolutely loves the end result – a modern bohemian vibe with a traditional edge.
Sarah’s clients chose Thibaut’s Molikini pattern in pink for her girls shared bath in their mid-century ranch home both for the unusual color combination (citron, pink and aqua) and the retro Tropical feel it lent.
As a waterfront home in South Windermere, the sea-life motif felt relevant, and the girls would enjoy seeing the pattern daily.
The bathroom was divided into a dressing area with a large vintage vanity mirror and separate shower/toilet/sink room. The oversized wallpaper pattern didn’t get lost with the room “break” and definitely allowed for a good dose of pop against the white subway tile and trim.
The final selection and design was fun, youthful and retro all at the same time.
