Flanary Home Tour

Full-Home Makeover with Aiden Fabrics Owners

Flanary Home Tour

As the owners of Aiden Fabrics, we know that Jonathan and Allison clearly have an amazing eye for design. We expected their own home to be meticulously planned out from the floor and wall selections to the curated home decor since they help their customers with these goals daily. Stepping into their home feels very comfortable yet glamorous all in one breath. Take a home tour with us, get inspired and see the details of all of their selections.

Durable Selections for Young Family

First and foremost, the Flanary home had to be functional and practical with two young children and pets. Everything had to take the wear and tear of a busy family. Keeping a clean and pretty yet livable was the most important element to the overall design.

I wanted our home to be elegant, inviting and warm…a place people felt comfortable, but also surrounded by beauty. I wanted a mix of textures and style that was truly us, not just out of a design magazine.

Allison Flanary

Again, with a young family, durability and cleanability was key. As fabric experts, they went with performance fabrics or treated their upholstery fabrics with Fiber Seal for the furniture. For flooring, the invested in wool and other natural fibers, which are easier to clean and more durable than synthetic fibers. In high traffic areas like the kitchen, they chose indoor/outdoor rugs.

Lastly, Allison chose a faux-grasscloth wallpaper in vinyl for our Bar Room. It looks like grasscloth, but you can wipe it off with a washcloth to clean.

Finding a Design Balance in Couples

Meshing and balancing two different styles between husband and wife can be quite challenging. Allison loves clean lines found in mid-century modern designs while Jonathan is more of a chabby chic French country kind of guy (think oriental rugs and ornate furniture). Allison enjoyed balancing both styles and approached each room initially by choosing the focal point.

With her design approach set, the largest obstacle was making a choice with so many decor and furniture options. She found the best way to approach it was to find one key item for each room and to build the design around that. In the living room, it was the Thibaut fabric for her club chairs. In her bedroom, she fell in love with the fabric for the drapes. For the bar room and half bath, it was the wallpapers. In the guest room, she found the bed and chose it for the fun global vibe it brought to the space.

It also helped to have some parameters in the spaces. How would the room function? Did she have existing furniture she needed to incorporate? Both kids rooms used a lot of the existing furniture and art from their prior home, so it was just finding the right paint colors, rugs and accents to freshen it up. In the end, the Flanary home is one of vibrancy and color. Take a closer look.

Entry

The Flanary’s enjoy entering their own every day. With each item reflecting who they are, it brings them joy to know they chose investments that would stand the test of time. That atmosphere is felt immediately upon entering their home.

Bar Room

This space was originally a traditional dining room that they didn’t see using as a family, so they transformed it into a Bar Room. They went with the concept of a swanky lounge without being too man cavy.

Playroom

With the kids’ rooms located upstairs, Allison used a smaller downstairs room as a play area for our two young children. Fun wallpaper, bright draperies and colorful wall art invite the kids right in. They love this room!

Powder Room

As the main guest restroom, Allison wanted the design to be glamorous and impactful. Since it is a small space, she didn’t shy away from picking patterned wallpaper and big prints in the fabrics. The mix was noted and featured in Charleston Home + Design.

Kitchen

After leaving the entry, guests walk right into a very open space shared by the kitchen and living area. The flow needed to connect from space to space but Allison didn’t want it to be too matchy/matchy. She used grey and navy tones to give it color and connected the colorway into the den.

Living Room

The Flanary’s had these Sam Moore club chairs in their prior house and needed to recover them. While Allison was flipping through a fabric book, she saw the one featured here and loved it! It became the focal point of the room.

Master Bedroom Suite

The master had to be relaxing and inviting so Allison chose soothing wall colors and warm accents. She loved the selection of the medium teal as a backdrop for the space. Each piece of furniture was carefully selected – since they started from scratch – keeping a good, collective theme without appearing like a furniture set.

Guest Bedroom Suite

Allison loves the white homes you see all over Instagram, but it wasn’t for her; she wanted a paint scheme that would flow throughout the house. When she chose tobacco brown as the wall color for the guest room, Jonathan was so skeptical. However, now it is one of their favorite rooms. Allison chose the bed next, which she fell in love with immediately, and decorated the rest of the space around it.

Aiden’s Room

Their son, Aiden, whom the store is named after, is a representation of him growing up to “big boy” status. Allison converted his crib to a full bed and then decorated around it with more of a grown up feel. Some of her original nursery selections still grace the walls and surfaces…. a nice way to reminence the early years.

Sadie’s Room

Their daughter, Sadie, was also transitioning from nursery to big girl room. Reusing pieces like bookcases, dresser and décor were important to Allison. Her biggest challenge was finding a fun fabric for her shades/lumbar pillows to tie it all together.
