Southern Front Porch Living at it's Finest

We love working on design projects and immediately we knew this particular one would be truly special and unique. Realtor and Interior Designer, Krystine Edwards, approached us about updating her front porch of her South Mt. Pleasant home, and our team went right to work. This special project included a custom designed and built porch swing with cane details, black ropes and a curved frame to match her Summer Classics outdoor living set. Walk through the design process with us from start to finish and get inspired by this well-designed Lowcountry front porch.

Project Goals
Take a front porch that was intended to be lovely but was never used because the homeowner didn’t have the right pieces out there. A small loveseat sat out there, which was never used because it wasn’t the right proportion and wasn’t comfortable. Krystine needed to select new items to make it more inviting and usable.

Krystine Shares about Her Project
When I was building the house, one of the most important things wast to have a big, front porch. I envisioned Summers of the kids paying in the front yard and all of us sitting and watching them. I knew big pieces of furniture could be an extension of our house and come across as welcoming to guests. The porch invites you to hang out and sit and stay, sip your drinks, enjoy your Summers, laugh and make memories.

I didn’t want typical furniture that you could find at every store. I wanted something special because the house is special. The chosen pieces provide an elevated look, yet it’s very comfortable. I fell in love with Summer Classics with products that stood above other outdoor options as I have a sophisticated style. Swing beds, in general, have a nice Lowcountry vibe, but didn’t want too traditional or farmhouse. I tried again to elevate the look and decided to try a custom cane swing. It compliments the chairs and sofa perfectly.

My look is very clean, minimal, and I focus on not overdoing it but making sure each piece is thoughtful and has impact. This is not the typical sofa; just look at the round back and thick cushions. Less is more, but you can create impact by choosing pieces that have a wow factor. It’s just all in the details.

My favorite part? All of it. I love when I’m on the swing bed, how they all join. Extended living room. Love looking across and seeing family on the side just hanging out and the breeze hitting our face. Truly magical.
